Schools close, open late in snow's aftermath

Many roadways in the meantime are icy and officials are advising motorists to drive carefully and to leave extra time getting to their destinations.

"Just my opinion, but I think we've earned some nice boring low impact weather," Gary Szatkowski, chief meteorologist at the National Weather Service's regional office in Mount Holly, tweeted Friday morning.

MASS TRANSIT

SEPTA: Trains, buses and trolleys will operate on regular weekday schedules with these exceptions:

Regional Rail: Trains are experiencing delays of up to 30 minutes. Service on the Cynwyd Line has been suspended due to Amtrak switch problems.

Bus Routes 19, 35, 94, 139, H and XH are suspended. Currently, 32 bus routes are operating with weather-related detours.

Market Frankford Line: There is no A-B express service and trains are making all stops for passenger convenience.

Norristown High Speed Line trains are running every 20 minutes, making all local stops.

Amtrak: Northeast Regional, Acela Express and Keystone Service trains are running on a modified schedule.

DRIVING

A number of accidents have been reported around the region, but none involving serious injuries.

Surfaces are still slippery and road crews are still out. Keep your distance from sand/salt trucks.

Speed limits on the Benjamin Franklin, Walt Whitman, Betsy Ross bridges were reduced 35 mph, while the speed limit on the Commodore Barry Bride was reduced to 45 mph. The Ben Franklin Bridge's pedestrian walkway is closed.

Speed restrictions are in place on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway, with the speed limit reduced to 45 mph.

AIRPORT

As of about 12:30 p.m., 56 flights to or from Philadelphia International Airport have been canceled - a far cry from the hundreds on Thursday - while another 178 were delayed, according to FlightAware.com.

GOVERNMENT

Trash collections resume in Philadelphia.

The U.S. Postal Service is asking residents to remove snow from sidewalks leading to their mailboxes. Mail carriers can decline to deliver mail if ice and snow are not cleared.
