1,000 jars of jelly and peanut butter donated

OXFORD Students at Bethany Christian School in Oxford donated more than 1,000 jars of peanut butter and jelly Friday to kick off the "Spread the Love" food drive at Philabundance.

The Philadelphia food bank plans to collect 10,000 jars of peanut butter and jelly during the seasonal initiative, which it established a few years ago in the spirit of Valentine's Day. The event ends Feb. 27.

Philabundance serves nearly 75,000 people every week. One in four is a child.

The food pantry chose peanut butter because it is kid-friendly, nutritious, and high in protein.

Glanzmann Subaru of Jenkintown will match donations up to $5,000 during the drive. Giant Food Stores will donate bread and about 3,000 jars of peanut butter.

"We're happy for people to spread the love in any way they can," said Stefanie Arck, a Philabundance spokeswoman.

The nonprofit's Hunger Relief Center is accepting donations of plastic jars of peanut butter and jelly at 3616 S. Galloway St.

The public can also text "Food" to 41010 to give $10, which buys the ingredients for 65 sandwiches.

Philabundance is accepting monetary donations at www.philabundance.org/spreadthelove. A $20 donation can buy a case of peanut butter.
