Motorist hurt in Delco school-bus crash

A driver was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after the van he was driving crashed into a school bus in Delaware County.

A driver was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon after the van he was driving crashed into a school bus in Delaware County.

No students were on the bus, which from the Delaware County Intermediate Unit, when the van rear-ended it in Chester, according to Adriene Irving, a DCIU spokeswoman.

The bus driver and an assistant were on the bus, which had pulled into a parking lane on Route 291 to purchase water or food from a nearby store, Irving said.

The bus driver and assistant were not injured, Irving said, but the van driver, who was not identified, was extracted from the van and transported to the hospital. The bus had been on its way to pick students up from the Pennington School in Glen Mills at the time of the accident.

Irving said DCIU was waiting additional information about the accident and would investigate what happened.
