Chesco teacher arrested for alleged sex with student

A 35-year-old former teacher at an all-boys school has been arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with her 16-year-old student, according to West Whiteland Township police.

Sarah O'Neill of Coatesville, who taught for seven years at Church Farm School and was the chair of the English department, has been charged with four counts of corruption of minors. During a 10-month relationship, the English teacher had sex with a student four times in her vehicle and at area hotels, police said.

The relationship began in January 2014, when the boy was 16. In June 2014, O'Neill left the school, where she had been teaching since September 2007, according to a school official.

The charges stemmed from a report the school filed about the relationship and a subsequent investigation by police, said Edmund K. Sherrill, head of school.

"The School has been cooperating fully in this investigation and currently has no reason to believe that this matter extends further," Sherrill said in a statement.

O'Neill's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 2.

Church Farm School was founded in 1918 and is a college preparatory boarding school for boys.
