MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Cat tests positive for rabies

GREEN LANE A cat that evidently had a tough life and was being cared for at the Green Lane Veterinary Hospital has tested positive for rabies, according to the Montgomery County Health Department.

The male Tabby, known as Jinx, was brown with black stripes, and had its tail and both rear legs amputated. The cat became "unusually aggressive" and exhibited symptoms of rabies last Thursday and was euthanized that day, the department said.

State laboratory tests later determined that the cat had tested positive. But no other animals at the hospital were infected, the county said.

Officials are asking that anyone who may have come in contact with the cat at the Green Lane Veterinary Hospital between Nov. 29 and last Thursday call the Montgomery County Health Department, Division of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention at 610-278-5117.
