Child dies in Feltonville blaze

The cause of the fatal fire, which also injured two others, was still under investigation last night.

A ROWHOUSE FIRE claimed the life of a child yesterday in Feltonville, officials said.

The blaze broke out just after noon on Wyoming Avenue near 2nd Street, said Capt. Clifford Gilliam, a Fire Department spokesman.

Fire crews arrived at the 3-story home minutes later, and it took them about 40 minutes to put the fire out, Gilliam said.

Investigators found the body of a "young child" inside the home, Gilliam said, but they were unable to determine the victim's age or gender. Neighbors on the block told reporters yesterday that the victim was a 4-year-old boy.

Two other residents, an 18-year-old woman and another child, were injured in the blaze, Gilliam said. Both were taken to Temple University Hospital and listed in stable condition.

Also hurt at the scene were two firefighters, who were treated and released late yesterday.

The cause of both the fire and the child's death were under investigation last night, Gilliam said.
