With a record-tying low in the morning and temperatures near freezing in the afternoon, Wednesday officially became the coldest Nov. 19 in Philadelphia in 141 years of record-keeping.

The low at Philadelphia International Airport was 20 and the high was 33, yielding an average temperature of 26.5, which was 19 degrees below normal.

That beat out the long-standing record for the date, 28, set in 1936 - 16 days after President Franklin D. Roosevelt won a landslide reelection victory over GOP challenger Alf Landon. The low that day also was 20, but the high was 36.

Even though more than five feet of snow has fallen on parts of New York state, however, winter has not yet come to stay.

Temperatures are expected to crest past 40 on Thursday, and, after another cooldown, they are due to soar past normal on Sunday and might even make a run at 70 on Monday.
