The Upper Darby man who let his 8-year-old nephew steer his car in traffic while he was drinking pleaded guilty to charges in a Delaware County court on Monday.

Clarence Hairston, 58, of the 600 block of Littlecroft Road entered pleas to driving under the influence and endangering the welfare of children, according to court documents.

In August, Hairston was pulled over by police who saw his 2008 Chevrolet Impala traveling erratically near Gilford and Copley Roads. The officer saw a child on Hairston's lap; another boy was in the back seat.

Hairston was found holding a half-empty 25-ounce can of beer with a second empty can on the floor. He told police he was babysitting his nephews at the time.
