Topless woman dies after being hit by cars on Broad St.

Police are trying to identify a woman who died after witnesses said she was struck by three cars on North Broad Street early Friday.

Police are trying to identify a woman who died after witnesses said she was struck by three cars on North Broad Street early Friday.

Just before 5 a.m., the woman - who was topless - walked into traffic near Belfield Avenue, police said.

Witnesses told police that one car hit the woman with such force that she was thrown in the air, then two other vehicles hit her.

Capt. John Wilczynski of the Accident Investigation Division said Friday afternoon that investigators were unsure how many cars struck the woman, who appeared to be in her mid-40s, or why she was partially clothed.

The driver of one car stopped at the scene. Witnesses said two other drivers drove off.

Wilczynski said investigators were having difficulty verifying the statements of witnesses, which occurred in early darkness.

Investigators are searching for surveillance footage from nearby businesses that may have captured the accident, he said.

Police are asking for anyone with information about the accident or the woman's identity to call the Accident Investigation Division at 215-685-3180.
