Paving to close part of Route 23 in Montco

LOWER MERION Drivers who travel on Conshohocken State Road in Lower Merion will find much of a 3.3-mile section of it closed for roadwork beginning Monday.

LOWER MERION Drivers who travel on Conshohocken State Road in Lower Merion will find much of a 3.3-mile section of it closed for roadwork beginning Monday.

Milling and paving operations will go on between Spring Mill Road and Hollow Road in Gladwyne for as long as three weeks, according to a Lower Merion Township statement.

Conshohocken State Road is state Route 23.

The township urged nonresidents "to seek alternative routes for the duration of the roadwork." For local traffic, detour signs and flaggers will direct drivers around the closures between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., the statement said.

"Intense preparation for this important work has been underway since April, with our public works crews making sanitary sewer repairs, testing utility connections, ensuring storm inlets are clear of winter debris, and other groundwork," Township Manager Ernie McNeely said.

"Especially after the winter that we had, there is no doubt this repaving project is badly needed, and, after a temporary inconvenience, it will result in a much-improved roadway condition."

Updates on the project's progress will be available from a variety of sources, including on the township's website at www.lowermerion.org.
