Martin's Corner joins Keystone Valley fire

PARKESBURG Martin's Corner Fire Company in West Caln Township merged last week with the Keystone Valley Fire Department, a year-old collaboration among the fire departments of Parkesburg, Pomeroy, and Atglen. The merger brings more equipment and 20 to 25 more volunteers to the department's current volunteer force of more than 50.

West Caln stopped funding Martin's Corner at the end of 2013, and then removed its fire company designation within the township. A few months ago, Martin's Corner contacted Keystone Valley about merging, said Raymond Stackhouse, chief of the Keystone Valley Fire Department.

"They admired what we were doing and agreed with regionalization, and thought they could find a home with Keystone Valley," Stackhouse said.

The department doesn't yet know whether it will continue to use Martin's Corner's fire house.

Parkesburg Borough and the townships of Sadsbury, West Sadsbury, and Highland support the Keystone Valley Fire Department, which covers more than 23 square miles of western Chester County.
