LANSDALE Ground is scheduled to be broken Tuesday for the North Penn Commons project in Lansdale, officials said. It will serve as a shared campus for four nonprofit groups that help seniors.

The project will be built on the former site of the Lans-Bowl on East Main Street, near the Lansdale branch of the North Penn YMCA, and will feature 60 affordable homes for those over 60. Along with the YMCA, Advanced Living Communities, Manna on Main Street, and the PEAK Center will provide seniors with services including independent-living activities, a soup kitchen and a food pantry.

The YMCA will get a makeover that will include a new pool.

The new campus and the YMCA "will be connected by an all-access lobby which will serve as the heart and hub of activity for all residents, members, clients and community members," according to a press release from the North Penn Community Health Foundation, which has led the project's fundraising and organizing.
