Police bust up Montco drug ring

Montgomery County detectives busted up a drug ring after a group of teens who had stolen from the alleged drug dealer came to police for protection.

Montgomery County prosecutors this week charged Edward Tillman and four associates with trafficking in heroin, cocaine and methamphetamine in Montgomery and Philadelphia counties.

In late March, teenagers stole about 15 ounces of heroin and other items from Tillman's apartment in Wyncote. Tillman threatened to kill the burglars if the drugs were not returned, the district attorney's office said in a press release.

The burglers notified Cheltenham police, who searched Tillman's apartment on Limekiln Pike and found drugs, money, weapons, cell phones and drug packing materials including a "TUFF STUFF" stamp, the D.A. said.

Drugs packaged with the same stamp were purchased from Tillman's alleged storehouse on West King Street in Pottstown, the D.A.'s office said.

The defendants were arraigned Tuesday in Elkins Park. Tillman was unable to post bail, and is being held for a preliminary hearing on June 3.
