Marple Township police are searching for the armed man who allegedly robbed the AMC Marple 10 movie theater Saturday night and was shot at by a security guard as he fled.

The guard fired four 9mm rounds at the getaway car after the alleged robber pointed a gun at him, police said.

The robbery occurred around 11 p.m. at the Delaware County theater on State Road when a man wearing a black hoodie, baseball cap, red shirt, white sneakers, winter gloves and dark sunglasses entered the theater.

He took $600 from the registers and fled the theater within seconds, police said. A security guard followed him to the parking lot.

"They made eye contact and a chase begins," said Marple Detective Barry Williams.

The alleged robber then got into a white or beige late-model sedan that might have had a sunroof, and pointed a gun at the guard before driving away, Williams said. Two other males were inside the car.

Police said one of the rounds fired by the guard was believed to have hit the car.

Police described the gunman as white, in his 20s and weighing about 190 pounds.

Those with information are asked to contact Marple Township police at 610-356-1504.
