Two teens arrested in a beating posted on Fracebook

Two teens have been arrested and a third was expected to surrender to police in connection with the beating of a teenage boy Tuesday in the Castor Gardens section of Philadelphia that was recorded on video and posted to Facebook.

The video was already recording when the first punch was thrown "out of nowhere," said police spokesman Lt. John Stanford. A 13-year-old boy recording the fight is heard laughing while two older boys pummel the 14-year-old victim until he collapses on the 1800 block of Princeton Avenue. The beating was after school let out Tuesday.

The victim, an eighth grader at Woodrow Wilson Middle School, did not report the attack, but people who saw the video on Facebook notified police through social media, Stanford said.

A 15-year-old boy from Northeast High School was arrested and charged with simple assault, Stanford said. A 16-year-old boy was expected to turn himself in Thursday. The video's shooter, a seventh grader at Wilson, also was arrested, Stanford said.

Police looked at his Facebook account and found other video and images from what appeared to be fights and pictures of the boy apparently smoking marijuana, Stanford said. The boy's account has since been closed.

Police were not calling the incident an example of "the knockout game."

Every year, Stanford said, "it's called something different" by the media.

"It's assault," he said.
