ABINGTON Abington voters are still awaiting verdicts in two commissioner races that ended in a tie.

In Ward 3, the Jenkintown section of Abington, Republican Lawrence F. Jones is two votes ahead of Democrat Michael O'Connor.

"It was a hard-fought election. Both sides did well," said Jones. "I'm anxious - or, more so, the people are anxious - to know the results."

In Ward 4, the Elkins Park section, Republican Pamela Vasserman and Democrat Jimmy DiPlacido are still battling over at least two contested absentee ballots.

In unofficial results on election night, O'Connor and Jones had each received 510 votes, while DiPlacido and Vasserman each had 517.

The Montgomery County Election Board will meet at 3 p.m. Wednesday to do a recount of Ward 4 and certify the final election results countywide. If any ties remain, the contestants would return to the Election Board Nov. 22 to decide a winner by drawing lots.
