Boards to discuss plans

for new schools

LEVITTOWN It's a big week for the Bristol Township School District, which is seeking varying levels of township approval for each of its three proposed elementary schools.

The new schools, the major share of a $150 million construction plan, would replace all nine of the district's elementary buildings.

On Monday night, the township Zoning Board will decide whether to approve a new school on the site of Mary C. Devine Elementary.

Wednesday, the township Planning Commission will weigh whether to grant final land-development approval for a proposed school on the Ralph Waldo Emerson Elementary site.

And on Thursday, plans for a school on the James Buchanan Elementary campus will go before Town Council.

Superintendent Samuel Lee said he was guardedly optimistic the projects would be approved.

Buchanan is the farthest along, Lee said, and if it receives council approval it could be put out to bid for construction, though the district would prefer to wait and put two projects out to bid together, he said.

Each meeting starts at 7 p.m. and will be held at the township Municipal Building, 2501 Bath Rd.
