Cash in coffee can linked to Montco bank robbery

A Whitpain Township man was arrested in connection with a bank robbery after a large amount of money was found in a coffee can in his kitchen, police said Tuesday.

A Whitpain Township man was arrested in connection with a bank robbery after a large amount of money was found in a coffee can in his kitchen, police said Tuesday.

Charles Decembrino, 43, was charged with robbery and related offenses after being identified from video surveillance as the suspect who went into the TD Bank on Swede Road Friday, demanded money from a teller, and implied he had a gun, said the Montgomery County District Attorney's Office and township police.

He fled toward East Norriton Township with about $6,500 from the bank.

Witnesses gave police a description of the suspect, but the break in the case came after authorities publicized a video image of the man taken by the bank's surveillance camera, and a confidential informant contacted Whitpain Township Police and identified him as Decembrino.

In a search of his home, police found a black trash bag containing clothing and other items the suspect in the bank robbery wore. They also found the money in a Folgers coffee can on a kitchen counter.

District Justice Robert M. Sobeck set Decembrino's bail at $100,000. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for August 13.
