D. Ginyard, part-owner of 2 weekly newspapers

Daniel Ginyard, 94, a former manager for a South Jersey car dealership and part-owner of two weekly newspapers in Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 30, at Wilmington Hospital of the Christiana Health Care System. He was a former Willingboro resident.

Daniel Ginyard, 94, a former manager for a South Jersey car dealership and part-owner of two weekly newspapers in Philadelphia, died Thursday, May 30, at Wilmington Hospital of the Christiana Health Care System. He was a former Willingboro resident.

Born in Orangeburg, S.C., Mr. Ginyard graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia, took business administration classes at Temple University, and enlisted in the Army in 1943.

During 10 years of active duty, he served as a communications officer and a transportation officer, including for a time in Japan, nephew Philip Ginyard said Wednesday.

Mr. Ginyard retired from the Army Reserve as a major in 1971.

After his decade on active duty, Mr. Ginyard graduated from the Charles Morris Price School of Advertising and Journalism in Center City, his nephew said.

In the 1970s and 1980s, Mr. Ginyard was a salesman in South Jersey for what is now Holman Automotive, rising to become an executive manager.

After becoming a part-owner of the weekly newspaper the Philadelphia New Observer, Mr. Ginyard took on the same role at the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, his nephew said.

Mr. Ginyard had several leadership roles with the Ezion-Mount Carmel Methodist Church in Wilmington while living there.

Mr. Ginyard is survived by his daughter, Donna Marie, a brother, three grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by a former wife and was predeceased by a former wife.

A viewing was set from 9 a.m. Thursday, June 6, at the First African Presbyterian Church, 4159 W. Girard Ave., before a 10 a.m. funeral there. A military burial is to be at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, Upper Makefield Township, Bucks County.
