Philadelphia police were still seeking leads in the Saturday-morning fatal shooting of bystander Zykia Sanders outside the Westpark Apartments in West Powelton.

Sanders, 22, was leaving her grandmother's apartment building in West Philadelphia when she was hit by a stray bullet, her mother said.

Tameka Jamaladdin said her daughter was leaving the building where she was living with her grandmother, on the 4400 block of Holden Street near Powelton, around 2 a.m. "There was already a commotion" and about 15 to 20 people were outside, she said.

"She went to run, but she was already hit," and fell on the sidewalk, where police found her unresponsive.

She was pronounced dead soon after at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

No arrest had been made by Sunday night. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to call homicide detectives at 215-686-3334. - Jessica Parks
