D.A. wants more info on alleged sexual predator

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Wednesday asked anyone with information about a "suspected serial sexual predator" to share that information with authorities.

The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office Wednesday asked anyone with information about a "suspected serial sexual predator" to share that information with authorities.

Jean Casseus, 48, who worked at the city's Criminal Justice Center, is facing an Oct. 3 preliminary hearing for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl while impersonating a police officer on June 7.

Defense attorney Ronald Allan Smith said Casseus, a married man with children who is active in his church, is not guilty and will fight the charges.

"I guess when they have a weak deck of card, they are looking to pull from other decks to prop up their case," he said in reference to the D.A.'s statement.

He said Casseus met the alleged victim after seeing an online ad which described her as 19.

After they had sex at the Days Inn on Roosevelt Boulevard, near Adams Avenue, Casseus refused to pay her because he did not know she was a prostitute, Smith said, which led her to go to the police with a false story about him assaulting her and impersonating a police officer.

"He was under the impression that she was who she advertised herself to be," Smith said.

The D.A.'s office said Casseus is a suspected serial sexual predator and anyone with information about him should call either the Philadelphia Police Special Victim's Unit at 215-685-3253 or 215-685-3254; or the D.A.'s office at 215-686-8016 or 215-686-5874.

Casseus has been free since July 30 when he paid 10 percent of a $250,000 cash bail, court records indicate.

He has been suspended from his courthouse job pending the outcome of the case, Smith said.
