Man charged in slaying of girlfriend’s brother

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with shooting and killing his girlfriend's brother in Olney, police said.

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with shooting and killing his girlfriend's brother in Olney, police said.

Andrew Khemdy, 22, was shot in the head and chest about 5 a.m. Sunday inside his residence on the 5100 block of North 6th Street, police said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene at 5:18 a.m.

Police arrested Roeut Chan, of the same address, and charged him with murder and related offenses.

Khemdy's sister was Chan's girlfriend and police said the shooting stemmed from an argument, the nature of which they did spell out.

A preliminary hearing is set for Aug. 8 for Chan.

Police in the meantime identified the victims of two other slayings over the weekend.

Khalil Braheem Wallace, 24, was shot in the abdomen, back, right leg and right arm about 4:45 p.m. Friday on the 1800 block of Yewdall Street in Southwest Philadelphia.

Wallace, 5900 block of Springfield Ave., died a short time later at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, police said.

Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive in the killing.

Bryant Purnell, 35, died at Albert Einstein Medical Center after he was shot about 9:40 p.m. on the 800 block of East Woodlawn Street in East Germantown, police said.

Purnell lived on the 1900 block of Faunce Street in Northeast Philadelphia's Rhawnhurst section, police said.

No word yet on a possible motive.
