State police credited a Montgomery County police department with capturing a man they said had fired at a trooper in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

About 3 a.m. Sunday, an officer with the Montgomery Township police noticed a Chevrolet Cruze with a stolen license plate traveling on Route 309. The officer received a report that one of the two men in the car had shot at police Friday in Luzerne County and that both were considered armed and dangerous.

The officer tracked the stolen vehicle to a convenience store. Township police then surrounded the store and arrested both suspects, who were identified by state authorities as William Gronosky Jr. and Kevin Williams. Officials did not release their ages or home towns, but said they were arraigned on charges stemming from a robbery and burglary. They said additional charges against Gronosky related to the Friday shooting were pending.

Montgomery Township officials could not be reached for comment Sunday
