College students set protests today over state budget cuts
STUDENTS, faculty and staff from several local colleges today plan to protest the state's spending priorities today as part of a nationwide call to action affiliated with the Occupy movement.
STUDENTS, faculty and staff from several local colleges today plan to protest the state's spending priorities today as part of a nationwide call to action affiliated with the Occupy movement.
The National Day of Action for Education in Philadelphia will begin with a noon rally at 17th and Spring Garden streets, on the campus of Community College of Philadelphia.
A 1 p.m. rally at Temple University's Bell Tower will be followed by a 3 p.m. march to the school-district headquarters and Gov. Corbett's Broad Street office.
Supporters from Swarthmore, Bryn Mawr, Haverford, Penn and Drexel are expected to attend.
"Throughout my whole [college] experience, I've seen things get progressively worse," said Diane Isser, a senior and one of eight student organizers at Temple.
"That's the worst part of education. They're not hesitant to build more prisons."
