Hundreds of students massed outside St. Hubert High School in Northeast Philadelphia this morning in a protest against the Archdiocese's plans to close the 70-year-old, all-girl institution.

They held signs and chanted while passing motorists on Torresdale Avenue honked their horns in support.

The students started their protest while it was still dark at 6:30 a.m. and started classes on schedule.

About 675 girls attend St. Hubert's.

The Archdiocese announced Friday it would close St. Hubert and three other high schools because of declining enrollment. It also is closing or merging 45 elementary schools.
