DUI charges expected in Port Richmond crash

1CHARGES EXPECTED IN PORT RICHMOND CRASH Drunken-driving charges will likely be filed against a man after he allegedly rear-ended another driver on a Port Richmond street late Tuesday, causing a wreck that killed the other driver, police said yesterday. The man, whom police didn't identify, was driving north on Richmond Street near Schiller about 11 p.m. when he hit a 1996 Ford driven by Venustiano Vidals Gonzaga, 50, of Camden, a police spokeswoman said.

PORT RICHMOND CRASH

Drunken-driving charges will likely be filed against a man after he allegedly rear-ended another driver on a Port Richmond street late Tuesday, causing a wreck that killed the other driver, police said yesterday. The man, whom police didn't identify, was driving north on Richmond Street near Schiller about 11 p.m. when he hit a 1996 Ford driven by Venustiano Vidals Gonzaga, 50, of Camden, a police spokeswoman said.

Gonzaga rammed a utility pole, was thrown from his vehicle onto the sidewalk and died at the scene. The first driver struck another pole. He was being treated at Temple University Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, police said.

2POLICE SEEK MAN IN ATTEMPTED SEX ASSAULT

A 17-year-old girl was walking along Salmon Street near Indiana Avenue in Port Richmond when she was approached by a man who tried to sexually assault her at knifepoint about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, officials said. The man was reported to have fled on Indiana Avenue toward Richmond Street, police said.

Police described him as black, between 30 and 40, about 6 feet 2, muscular with a light beard and wearing a black hooded sweater with a gold zipper down the front, blue jeans and dirty tan boots.

3MAN SHOT OUTSIDE NICETOWN BAR

Officers on routine patrol heard gunshots on 17th Street near Hunting Park Avenue just before 2 a.m., yesterday, police said. Pedestrians alerted police to the victim - a man who had just left the nearby Club Rose, said Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman. The man, who was shot in the head, told police he was walking with his cousin when two men in a gray Pontiac Grand Prix with black tinted windows approached. The passenger leaped out and shot once, and the men fled, police said.

4MAN, 20, SHOT SEVERAL TIMES IN NORTH PHILLY

After witnesses told police they heard gunshots on Marvine Street near Parrish just before 1 a.m. yesterday, cops found a 20-year-old man there with multiple gunshot wounds to the neck, chest and abdomen, police said yesterday. The victim was in critical condition at Hahnemann University Hospital last night.

BUCKS MAN WAS ROBBER

IN NORTHEAST, COPS SAY

A Bucks County man who was suspected in five convenience-store robberies in Northeast Philadelphia was arrested yesterday after a Bucks County probation officer recognized him from video footage that Philadelphia police posted online.

William Warner, 40, who police said robbed three 7-Elevens in 12 hours, is suspect No. 4 in "Video Villains" - a compilation of surveillance footage featuring 10 suspects from unsolved crimes on the department website.

Police said Warner robbed the 7-Elevens on Jan. 23 and 24, and robbed a Rite-Aid and a Wawa on March 23 and 24.

S. PHILLY GUNSHOTS

Police are searching for a man in connection with gunshots on Feb. 25 on Dickinson Street near 24th in South Philadelphia.

The investigating detective said the assailant was walking behind another man after he left a store. The man told police he heard a suspicious sound behind him and when he turned to look, the man began firing shots. No one was injured.

A surveillance camera caught the shooter running from the scene, and police have posted the footage on their website.

The man is described as black, tall, thin, about 25, about 6 feet and wearing a dark-green hooded sweater at the time. Tipsters are encouraged to call the South Detective Unit at 215-686-3013.
