Philadelphia cop arrested for drinking on the job

A Philadelphia Police officer was arrested today on charges of drinking and driving on the job, police said.

A Philadelphia Police officer was arrested today on charges of drinking and driving on the job, police said.

Officer William Haviland, 42, a seven-year veteran of the force, was suspended in November for 30 days with the intent to dismiss, said Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey.

Haviland, who had been assigned to the 26th District covering Fishtown and parts of Kensington, went to a bar in the Northeast while he was on duty Nov. 7, police said. He was also seen driving a police vehicle after leaving the bar.

He is charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment and misapplication of entrusted government or financial institutions.
