Movie house to change hands?

The Bridge, the swanky movie multiplex at the edge of the University of Pennsylvania campus, is on the market, university spokesman Anthony Sorrentino confirmed today.

National Amusements, the cash-strapped circuit that leases the six-screen property at 40th and Walnut Streets from the university and has operated it since opening in 2003, has put its lease in play. Rave Motion Pictures, a privately held chain based in Dallas, is "an interested party," Sorrentino said.

Jeremy Devine, vice-president of marketing for Rave, would not confirm his company's interest.

Still, from West Philadelphia to South Jersey, where National Amusement's 16-screen Showcase at the Ritz Center is also on the market, the buzz is that Rave - which operates 475 screens in 30 locations across 14 states - has designs on both properties.

Rave, which has been in business since 1999, is known for its state-of-the-art digital projection and seating amenities, including chairs that rock and feature retractable armrests for cuddling. Historically, Rave's programming has been mainstream movies.
