Former state Sen. Vincent Fumo got another bout of bad news this week when he was notified that he was losing his pension due to his upcoming jail sentence, the

Inquirer

reported online yesterday.

Fumo's pension from the State Employees' Retirement System had been $100,500 a year.

He began collecting on it when he retired from the state Senate in December.

Fumo, 66, was convicted in March of 137 counts of conspiracy, fraud, obstruction of justice and related offenses.

During the trial, which lasted almost five months, Fumo was portrayed as a man who spent OPM, or other people's money, to support a lavish lifestyle that included five homes, a condo, a farm, boats and part-ownership of a jet.

On July 14, Fumo was sentenced to 55 months in jail, fined $411,000 and ordered to pay restitution of $1.3 million to the state Senate and more than $676,000 to Citizens' Alliance for Better Neighborhoods.

Ruth Arnao, a former Fumo aide, was sentenced to a year and a day.

Both must report to federal prison on Aug. 31.
