Olga’s, landmark SJ diner, pays up

Coffee could be brewing at Olga's again tomorrow.

Coffee could be brewing at Olga's again tomorrow.

The landmark South Jersey diner - at Routes 70 and 73 in Marlton - was seized by state tax officials on Thursday because its owners had failed to pay about $37,000 in back taxes.

Today, the state gave the OK for its owners to reopen.

"We cleared them as of 12:30 this afternoon," said Tom Bell, a spokesman for the New Jersey Division of Taxation. "They've made satisfactory payment arrangements."

Although the diner is no longer in hot water, it has none, a spokeswoman for the county said today after an inspection by the Health Department.

"They have no gas at the moment, which means they have no hot water," said Linda O'Donnell. "So they're closed voluntarily until that issue is resolved _ likely tomorrow.

"Our health inspector will have to go out there again" to make certain the diner has hot water.
