Riddle Memorial Hospital has equipped its ambulances with new a cardiac monitor/defibrillator capable of sending real-time data to the emergency department before the patient arrives.

There will be a simulated demonstration of the devices, the Philips HeartStart MRx Monitor/Defibrillator today at 9:15 a.m. in the Community Education Room in the Outpatient Pavilion. The hospital is at 1068 West Baltimore Pike in Media.

The portable monitors let paramedics send data using wireless technology and can restart a patient's heart en route to the hospital. Each unit costs about $25,000.
