Two more arrested in July robbery of Lower Merion deli

Police in Lower Merion have arrested two more suspects in connection with an armed holdup in July that terrorized 19 people at Hymie's, a popular Main Line deli and restaurant.

The suspects were identified by police Friday morning as James Dumas, 41, of the 900 block of East Locust Avenue in Philadelphia, and Marquis Budd, 20, of the 5500 block of Devon Street in Philadelphia. They bring to four the number individuals now charged in the robbery.

Dumas was taken into custody Wednesday in Philadelphia and charged in connection with the robbery.

Budd turned himself in Thursday to the Lower Merion Police and also was charged in connection with the robbery.

On Thursday, both men were remanded by a district court judge to the Montgomery County prison when they could not post bail which was set at $50,000 for Dumas, and $100,000 for Budd.

The pair join two other defendants as part of a four-man team that police believe burst into Hymie's Restaurant in Merion at 9:03 p.m. on July 14 and forced patrons and employees to lie on the floor where they were robbed at gunpoint.

Three of the four men were armed with handguns, police have said. No one was injured.

Police said the men were scared off by a noise coming from the rear of the deli, and fled before emptying the cash drawer.

Their take included about $3,500 in restaurant proceeds that the manager had carried in his pocket, and several boxes of candy.

Police traced the alleged robbers because one had parked his car in a lot behind the deli.

Previously arrested and charged were John Leroy Moore, Jr., 34, of the 5600 block of Nelson Street, and Michael S. Schaefer, 40, also of Philadelphia.

Hymie's Restaurant is located at 342 Montgomery Ave. Merion. It draws a hefty clientele from Philadelphia and the Main Line.
