Stars on MTV's Video Music Awards Red Carpet leave nothing to our imaginations

Private parts clearly aren't private on celebrity red carpets. Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards was replete with sheer gowns that revealed many a performer's, well, cash and prizes. It seems we've been there and done that with super-high splits, deep decolletage, and even a few nipple flashes.

Sunday night's MTV Video Music Awards was replete with sheer gowns that revealed many a performer's, well, cash and prizes. It seems we've been there and done that with super-high splits, deep decolletage, and even a few nipple flashes.

We are talking full-frontal action.

"Everything on the VMA red carpet last night was angel-gone-bad," said Anthony Henderson, an Atlanta-based fashion stylist who counts actress Sheryl Lee Ralph as one of his clients.

That seems to be the case: Super star Beyoncé's Francesco Scognamiglio long-sleeve gown had a plumed, high-neck. Singer Halsey's sparkling white Yousef Al-Jasmi jumpsuit featured a demure halter neckline. Nicki Minaj's royal blue mermaid frock was so long, it pooled on the red carpet.

Still, we were treated to a glimpse of the outline of all their vajayjays.

It seems divas are putting them out there for a few reasons.

With so many long-sleeve gowns in special occasion and red-carpet wear, designers are looking for ways to add sexiness to the otherwise covered-up pieces - so the silouette is covered but sheer. Also, the popularity of body jewelry and chokers combined with the see-through frocks helps create a stripper/bad-girl vibe.

But what's really happening, Henderson said, is that celebrities like bootylicious Minaj, and Beyoncé - the queen of the latex body suit - are fighting to stay relevant. And celebrities like Halsey, who are aspiring to that kind of fame, are trying to keep up.

They have to keep surprising their fans to stay in the watercooler and hashtag conversations - even if it borders on vulgar.

"It's all about that brand," Henderson said.
