Kiddin' Around: "Nightscape" at Longwood Gardens
Keepem up late to witness a rave-y version of an esteemed American garden.
The long: Visitors-nearly 60,000 of them so far-to Longwood's 6-week-old, four-evenings-a-week, indoor-outdoor "Nightscape: A Light and Sound Experience" have called the show fantastical, natural, New Age, trippy and spa-like.
The short: Serenity of an arboretum; scenery of a rave.
The demo: Adults and kids who can stay up past 10 p.m. without melting down.
The idea: Klip Collective are Philly-based visual artists behind major international spectacles, this time making a famed American garden beautifully psychedelic.
How it works: Nine sites-three inside, six out-become backdrops for moving fluorescence. Ambient music adds extra otherworldly vibes.
Favorites: Topiaries seem to vibrate like instruments; pond-side tree wall displays all four seasons.
Arrive early: Order the kids' dinner at the cafe. Have a pint at Victory's onsite beer garden.
Pro tip: Ditch the cameras and cells. This experience is best captured in real time.
Gotta glow: Go 'head. Spring for light-up necklaces.
Time change: When night falls earlier, so does the show. September, it's at 8:30 p.m.; October, at 7:30 p.m.
The basics: Longwood Gardens, 1001 Longwood Blvd., Kennett Square, 9 to 11 p.m. Wednesdays through Saturdays (through Oct. 31), rain or shine, $27, $17 ages 5 to 18, free under 5, reservations recommended, 610-388-1000, longwoodgardens.org.
