Cops call attempted luring of North Phila. schoolgirls unfounded

Police were searching for a group of men who reportedly attempted to lure three girls walking to middle school into a van in North Philadelphia this morning, but later said the incident was unfounded.

The girls went to their principal's office at Roberto Clemente Promise Academy on the 100 block of West Erie Avenue. Police were called to the school about 8:45 a.m.

The girls told authorities they were followed by a group of five Hispanic males in a truck, who tried to get them into the vehicle. The Special Victims Unit was investigating.

A police spokeswoman later said that investigators determined that the men had simply waved at the girls as they were walking.
