Do the weekend violence math: 7 shootings, 9 wounded, 1 dead

A weekend of violence has left one man dead and nine others wounded in seven shootings throughout the city since Saturday, police said.

At about 2 a.m. yesterday, police found 21-year-old Raheem Ellis, who had been shot 14 times, inside his car on Parkside Avenue near Girard, in West Philadelphia.

He died a short time later at Hahnemann University Hospital, police said.

The weekend's violence began shortly before 10 Saturday night on Hartranft Street near 17th, in South Philadelphia, when a 24-year-old man was shot in the right elbow, knee and stomach, according to police spokeswoman Officer Tanya Little.

The unidentified man was taken to Hahnemann, where he remained in critical condition last night.

At 12:16 a.m. yesterday, two unidentified men were wounded in a double shooting in South Philadelphia, police said.

An 18-year-old man was shot once in the abdomen and a 20-year-old man was shot in the left leg and in the stomach on Opal Street near Snyder Avenue.

Both victims were taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, where they remained in stable condition last night, police said.

At 1:22 a.m. yesterday, a double shooting on Delhi Street near Luzerne, in North Philadelphia, left two teens wounded, police said.

A 15-year-old boy was shot in the buttocks and an 18-year-old youth was shot in the shoulder.

Both unidentified victims were taken to Temple University Hospital in stable condition.

About 2:30 a.m. yesterday, an unidentified 35-year-old man was shot in the left wrist and groin on 23rd Street near Berks, in North Philadelphia. He was in critical condition at Temple University Hospital last night.

At 3:15 a.m. yesterday, two unidentified men were wounded in a shooting at Opal and York streets, in North Philadelphia.

A 20-year-old was shot in the neck and the left shoulder, while a 23-year-old was shot once in the chest. Both were taken to Temple in critical condition.

At 4:05 a.m. yesterday, at Venango and Randolph streets, North Philadelphia, a 15-year-old was shot in the back and left shoulder.

The unidentified teen was taken to Temple in critical but stable condition.

Investigators also were awaiting autopsy results on a body found Saturday night shortly after 6 p.m. in a lot on Germantown Avenue and Cambria Street, North Philadelphia, police said.

The body was wrapped in a comforter and a bag, and sealed with duct tape, Little said.

Police said that the body was too badly decomposed to determine the sex and race of the victim, or the cause of death.
