A preliminary hearing on murder charges for the 16-year-old cousin of basketball standout Tyreke Evans is scheduled for today in a Delaware County courtroom.

Jamar Evans, of Chester, has been charged with first-degree murder and related offenses in the shooting death of Marcus Reason, 19, of Chester.

On Nov. 25, the two cousins and two other friends were watching a football game at a relative's home in Brookhaven when they decided to go to Tyreke Evan's home for fresh baked pie. As they were leaving, Reason approached the sport utility Tyreke Evans was driving. Two passengers in the car shouted "Go! He's about to shoot!" - referring to Reason.

As the car was pulling away, Jamar Evans allegedly pulled a gun from his jacket and fired, killing Reason.

No charges were filed against Tyreke Evans, who was recently named a McDonald's all-American and is regarded as the nation's top unsigned basketball prospect. He plays for American Christian High School and has listed Villanova, Memphis, Louisville, Connecticut and Texas as his final five choices.
