Pizza proliferation in Wayne

Early this summer, two well-regarded Neapolitan pizzerias will set up second locations across the street from each other on Wayne's restaurant row:

Ardè Osteria & Pizzeria will be a new concept from the crew at Pizzeria DiMeo's in Andorra Shopping Center. Vecchia Pizza Napoletana will be a second location for the Phoenixville parlor.

At Vecchia (134 N. Wayne Ave., between Great American Pub and Paola's), owner Frank Nattle imported Neapolitan craftsman Giuseppe Foglia to work with bricks, stone, volcanic ash, and sand to construct the wood-fired oven.

At the more ambitious Ardè (133 N. Wayne Ave.), owners Pino DiMeo and Scott Stein have installed a wood-burning Stefano Ferrera oven. DiMeo also sent his son Antimo to train in Italy with chef Gennaro Esposito. Ardè will have house-made salumi and a large cheese program.

What's new

How about a restaurant that is (deep breath now) all vegan, all gluten-free, kosherstyle, and 97 percent organic? P.S. & Company (1706 Locust St.) is the airy storefront presence of Pure Sweets, the gluten-free bakery run for six years by Andrea Kyan. It is open for breakfast (house-made yogurt, sprouted muesli), lunch (soups, salads, wraps, bowls), and, on weekends, afternoon tea. Drinks include organic nut milkshakes, teas, and pressed juices.

New in coffee: Rival Bros' first shop, at 24th and Lombard Streets, where Taste Buds Market was, and a second Bodhi Coffee, at 263 S. 10th St., where Cafe Mocha was.

What's coming

Steve Martorano - the personality-plus South Philly-bred celeb chef who migrated to Florida, where he created a red-gravy empire that has spread to Las Vegas - is opening Martorano's, an Italian restaurant, this summer at Harrah's in Atlantic City. He will take over what is now Luke Palladino's restaurant. Meanwhile, Palladino is opening a restaurant on East Passyunk Avenue in South Philadephia.

No time for loafing at Le Pain Quotidien. The Brussels-bred, New York boulangerie chain - open locally near Rittenhouse and Washington Squares - has locations opening later this month at the Granary in Franklintown (19th and Callowhill Streets) and about a month after at 223 E. Lancaster Ave. in Wayne.

Joe's Steaks + Soda Shop (the former Chink's Steaks in Northeast Philadelphia) will add a second location in late summer or fall; it will be at Frankford and Girard Avenues in Fishtown.

Briefly noted

A man who goes around the country awarding outlandish tips to waiters struck last week at Rouge on Rittenhouse Square, awarding $5,000 to waitress Jess Nguyen and $2,000 to bartender Sam Trasatti. The man billed himself as "Tips for Jesus." Nguyen said she would get further teaching credentials, while Trasatti is mulling a trip to Europe.

Le Cheri, in the Art Alliance on Rittenhouse Square, is now open for lunch Wednesday to Friday.
