Alex Trebek

"is resting comfortably in a Los Angeles hospital and he will be back in the studio for the next scheduled tapings in January." So reads a note posted yesterday on the official

Jeopardy!

Web site.

The popular game-show host was admitted to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center late Monday after a heart attack in his home in the Los Angeles area. "Thankfully, it was a minor heart attack," said

Jeopardy!

rep

Jeff Ritter

.

Trebek, 67, who has hosted

Jeopardy!

since '84, was born in Sudbury, Ontario, Canada as

Giorgi Suka-Alex Trebek

. His father,

George Edward Trebek

, was a Ukranian immigrant. His ma,

Lucille Lagacé

, was Franco-Ontarian. Trebek, who is known as a brainiac's brainiac (at least by TV standards), majored in philosophy at the University of Ottawa. He began his broadcast career as a newscaster.

Doctors at Cedars-Sinai say Trebek should be released well before the end of the week.

Paris saves the day

First she tried to help soused elephants in India kick their addiction to booze. (Actually, that report was a hoax.) Now,

Paris Hilton

has saved the day for an Oompa Loompa act.

The New York Daily News says that at the Art Basel Miami Beach art show in Florida on Saturday, a crowd of yobs rushed the stage during a Beacher's Madhouse performance.

Entertainer

Robin Sherwood

, who was in full Oompa Loompa costume, was seriously injured when he was shoved into a stage support, cutting open a crimson gash on his leg.

According to an anon witness, Paris took charge and "screamed for help and jumped up to move everyone away from" Sherwood.

"She held Robin's hand and said the sweetest things to keep him calm," the witness said.

People.com says Paris, who has been friends with Sherwood for some time, has been helping the performer, who suffers from a kidney ailment, get a kidney transplant.
