Hart makes light of, owns up to DUI

PHILLY'S OWN superstar comedian Kevin Hart was arrested Sunday morning on charges of driving under the influence.

Most celebs worth their salt have arrests like that under their belt, but then Hart did something totally out of the ordinary for a star of his status: He admitted he was wrong.

The California Highway Patrol stopped Hart's black Mercedes at 4:30 a.m. after they saw him driving erratically, almost colliding with a gas-tanker truck, on the 101 Freeway.

Hart tweeted about his arrest Sunday, vacillating between joking about the arrest ("I did 6,000 push ups & 13,000 sit ups while I was in the pin . . . shout out to my celly 'Mark' we exchanged war stories LMFAO") and expressing anger at the arresting officer ("This cop was the worst, he knew who I was & wanted to make a example out of me . . .").

Most notably though, he admitted to drinking and driving when arrested ("When the cop asked me to take the sobriety test I said 'WHY WASTE OUR TIME . . . I'M DRUNK MAN' . . . #TrueStory") and apologized for his actions via Twitter. "On some real s--- . . . drinking & driving is not a game or a laughing matter. People have lost lives because of stupid s--- this!" Hart tweeted. "This is a wake up call for me, I have to be smarter & last night I wasn't . . . everything happens for a reason . . ."

* Kathy Romano from WMMR's Preston & Steve morning show, will be the commencement speaker at West Chester University, addressing the College of Visual and Performing Arts and the College of Arts and Science during WCU's May 18 ceremony.

"I just grabbed from own experience," Romano told me about her speech. "One of the main points is to be persistent but not annoying."

Romano is getting props for not only her morning hosting duties, but her charitable efforts as well, like the Fresh Smiles Foundation, which puts underprivileged kids in organized activities. The next Fresh Smiles event is a 5K run on April 28. To join in, go to freshsmiles.org.

* "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," "Dancing with the Stars" contestant and Allentown homeboy Carson Kressley will deliver the May 11 commencement address at Philadelphia University. At the ceremony, Kressley will be awarded the honorary degree Doctor of Humane Letters. Kressley is a Manhattanite now, but he's a Pa. boy at heart. When I talked with him last year during a Phila. U. speaking engagement, he regaled me with the entire Action News theme song.

* The Rev. Kevin R. Johnson, the pastor of North Philly's Bright Hope Baptist Church, will be the baccalaureate speaker at Morehouse College in Atlanta. Who gets the top commencement spot? That would be President Obama.

CBS 3/CW Philly reporter Robin Rieger is leaving the station. Rieger wants to spend more time with her family, after 17 years on air with the station. South Jersey resident Rieger is married to Sixers play-by-play announcer Tom McGinnis. They have two children: a daughter, Kenna, and a son, Luke.

1210 WPHT enters a new era today as Michael Smerconish makes the jump to Sirius XM and Dick Morris takes over the drivetime spot. On Friday, Smerconish completed his final terrestrial-radio show, thanking his home station in a tweet: "Not many broadcasters get to do what I've just done - sign off and say thank you to the audience. Thanks to WPHT for that."

Morris takes over the 2-to-6 p.m. slot on WPHT, most recently occupied by Rich Zeoli and Steve Martorano. Buzz Bissinger, who recent made waves with a GQ article admitting his shopping addiction, occupied the spot with Martorano before Bissinger left the station in December. Martorano and Zeoli move to a post-Phillies slot and will settle into 6 to 10 p.m. after the season is over.

Radnor's own Jim Somers appears on "Who Wants to be a Millionaire" Monday and Tuesday. Fun facts: Somers, who is 70, was the 2011 American Iron Man Champion in his age group, so he's not only a trivia nerd, but a beef cake. If his name is familiar, that's because his family helped settle Somers Point.
