Celebrity power list adds Pink, drops Will Smith, Bon Jovi

"Who da man?" Will Smith famously bellowed at a defeated alien in 1996's Independence Day.

"Who da man?" Will Smith famously bellowed at a defeated alien in 1996's Independence Day.

Indeed, for more than a decade, Smith was the man, racking up a string of blockbusters that won him a rep as Hollywood's biggest star.

But that was so two years ago.

Smith's not even on Forbes' new list of the 100 most powerful celebrities - after being No. 11 last year.

This year, Oprah Winfrey's on top, Lady Gaga's No. 4 and Taylor Swift, born in Berks County 20 years ago, shows up at No. 12.

Others with Philadelphia area roots on the list include Kobe Bryant, NBA star and Lower Merion grad, at No. 14; Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen at No. 17; Doylestown's Pink at No. 27; wheeler-dealer Wharton grad Donald Trump at No. 33; and Upper Darby High actress/writer/producer Tina Fey at No. 90. Mention could also be given to No. 22, filmmaker Steven Spielberg, who lived for a while in Haddon Township as a child, and, to stretch the point, No. 87, actress Drew Barrymore, descendant of the legendary Philadelphia acting family that include grandfather John.

Pink was added to this year's list because she's "a major hit overseas," says Forbes. "Her 133-date 2009 world tour - the seventh highest-grossing in the world - brought in more in box office receipts than Beyonce."

Smith, on the other hand, is the featured face on the list of "Celebrity 100 Drop Offs."

"Smith didn't have a new movie in our June 2009 to June 2010 time frame nor had he signed on to anything that would have given him his typical $20 million up front payday," Forbes writer Dorothy Pomerantz explains.

Smith apparently put lots of his energy into producing The Karate Kid, starring son Jaden.

Will Smith should start shooting Men in Black 3 later this year, however, Pomerantz says.

Also missing this year is Jersey band Bon Jovi, ranked 21 a year ago.

"The main reason for their fall was an eight-month break from touring," writes Pomerantz.

No mention of hard times for the Arena Football League, whose 2008 champion, the Philadelphia Soul, was co-owned by Jon Bon Jovi.

A tour that will take the band "from Omaha to London to Chicago" could put them back on next year's list.

This year's Top 10 (in order): Winfrey, Beyonce Knowles, James Cameron, Lady Gaga, Tiger Woods, Britney Spears, U2, Sandra Bullock, Johnny Depp and Madonna.
