Curtis orchestra concert at Mann canceled

The Mann Center’s first concert of the season was scrapped, but Curtis orchestra fans will still be able to listen online.

The Curtis Institute of Music's orchestra concert slated for Saturday at the Mann Center has been called on account of weather. The concert, however, will go on in a non-public performance at the school, and will be made available free online as a live-stream event.

Relatively cold temperatures – perhaps in the upper 40s – were considered a threat to many of the musical instruments, and so the free concert on the eve of the orchestra's European tour was moved indoors.

Curtis' orchestra rehearsal space, Gould Rehearsal Hall, is large enough only for the orchestra. The conservatory expects to hold a "listening party" with video elsewhere on campus for parents of Curtis students, as well as parents of students from Play On, Philly! and the Rock School for Dance Education, who are also performing.

About 3,600 people had registered for free tickets to the concert, which was to have been the Mann's first concert of the season, a Mann spokeswoman said. They will be notified directly about the cancellation.

The 7 p.m. live stream will be accessible on the Curtis and Mann Facebook pages, with more information at www.manncenter.org.
