Family-friendly fishy adventure at Fringe

The Fringe Festival is likely to be confusing for kids, with all the naughty sights and sounds and strange, late-night, avant-garde weirdness. After all, naughty stuff, staying up late, and being confused is purely for grown-ups, right?

The Fringe Festival is likely to be confusing for kids, with all the naughty sights and sounds and strange, late-night, avant-garde weirdness. After all, naughty stuff, staying up late, and being confused is purely for grown-ups, right?

But the Fringe folks have something for the children (and adults who need a break from the deep thinking).

Viscosity Theatre's Fish & Beauregard is an all-ages epic about a carnival-prize goldfish that outgrows his leaky tank. When his owner sets out to find a lake to set the finned pet free, the pair fall under the Cloud of Perpetual Rain, where a young woman finds them while on her quest to Discover the Unknown. That's when the trouble starts.

Double feature

Times change. Some day, old folks will wax poetic about the thrills of Netflix. Still, for us, going to the drive-in in our pajamas will always be an enduring, memorable pleasure that we wish kids today could experience.

But wait - they can. The refurbished Mahoning Drive-In Theater hosts a twin bill of kids classics: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and The NeverEnding Story. Everybody get in their PJs and in the car!

Last splash

Summer is about done, and so is this year's edition of the Philadelphia Museum of Art's children's program, Art Splash, with gallery tours and activities inspired by the museum's collection. The final theme - based on the book A is for Art Museum and highlighting famous works - is "A is for Animals."
