Contemporary artist Shepard Fairey will this week unveil his first large-scale mural in the city of Philadelphia.

Contemporary artist Shepard Fairey will unveil this week his first large-scale mural in the City of Philadelphia.

Fairey has teamed up with the Mural Arts Program to install the creation, titled Lotus Diamond, on the facade of a building at 1228 Frankford Ave. in Fishtown.

Work on the mural began Monday and is expected to wrap up Friday afternoon, when Fairey and Mural Arts executive director Jane Golden will host a dedication ceremony.

Lotus Diamond is the first of three projects Fairey is scheduled to create with the Mural Arts Program in the coming year, a spokeswoman for the program said.

First known for his "Obey Giant" sticker campaign and subsequent spin-off clothing line, Fairey skyrocketed to fame after creating the Barack Obama "Hope" poster during the 2008 presidential campaign.
