LOS ANGELES (Variety.com) - Universal's found-footage thriller "As Above, So Below" has launched with a moderate $470,000 at late shows Thursday night in 1,805 theaters in the U.S.

The number is in line with expectations for modest numbers for "As Above," with forecasts for $8 million to $10 million for the Labor Day weekend.

"As Above," set in the catacombs under Paris, is directed by John Erick Dowdle from a script he co-wrote with his brother Drew. Legendary Pictures produced it in the first film released under its deal with Universal, which is expanding "As Above" to 2,637 theaters.

The other new entry, Pierce Brosnan's "The November Man," has taken in $1.7 million in its first two days following its launch by Relativity on Wednesday at 2,774 theaters in North America.

Disney-Marvel's holdover "Guardians of the Galaxy" is expected to top the chart for the second consecutive weekend -- and for its third time this summer -- with as much as $14 million over the Friday-to-Monday period. The tentpole led Wednesday with $1.5 million to lift its 27-day cume to $256.7 million.

Paramount's third weekend of "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" should come in second over the weekend. "TMNT" took in $1.1 million Wednesday to lift its domestic total to nearly $150 million.
