Brownie points for Pugh

Bucks native rises over peers at silent auction

NEW YORK GIANTS offensive tackle Justin Pugh, originally of Bucks County, returned to the Keystone State this weekend to give some love back to his hometown.

The 2013 NFL first-round draft pick, standing at 6 feet 4 inches and hailing from Holland, Pa., donned his best black tie for the Autism Cares Foundation's sixth annual Gala and Silent Auction. It was Saturday at the Spring Mill Manor, in Ivyland, about 25 miles north of Philadelphia.

"I am fortunate life has been good to me, and I would like to give back to the Bucks County community that has always supported me," Pugh said.

In February, Pugh was on "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire," where he answered enough questions right to win $10,000 for Shriners Hospitals for Children. They have a local branch on Broad Street near Venango.

#FoxFlashbackFriday

Speaking of good sports, Fox 29's Alex Holley and Mike Jerrick will be putting their best feet forward on Fridays for what they're calling #FoxFlashbackFriday on Twitter.

This past Friday, prom fever swept through the station's Old City studios and viewers caught a glimpse of Jerrick, Holley, Bob Kelley, Lauren Johnson, Sue Serio and Chris Murphy shakin' it to music from teen cult-classic movies like "Footloose" and "Carrie."

The hosts highlighted some of the cringe-worthy fashion choices from prom seasons throughout the past few decades. Missed seeing Alex in poufy sleeves and Mike in a vintage tuxedo?

You're welcome.

An overdue dedication

Philly icon Billie Holiday would have celebrated her 100th birthday on April 7.

I was remiss to let the day pass without acknowledgment, but someone took it upon themselves to create a new website dedicated to her: billieholiday.com - which promises to be a gateway to the singer's fantastic life and work.

A piece of Kalas lives on

The 2008 World Series ring of legendary late Phillies broadcaster Harry Kalas was sold at auction for $51,750 on Thursday.

Hunt Auctions, based out of Exton, auctions off Major League Baseball memorabilia, and Kalas' World Series bling went fast. Sources say the presale estimate for the bejeweled ring owned by the Phillies Hall of Famer was $50,000 to $75,000. By Thursday, preauction bids had already reached $30,746. No word on who took home the prize.

Local hand draws Rand

On the cusp of presidential primary season, a Philly-based artist has teamed with Bluewater Comics to draw a comic-book biography of Rand Paul, the son of former presidential hopeful Ron Paul who's running to be the Republican nominee for president in 2016.

The cover of Political Power: Rand Paul was created by local artist Michael Frizell. It depicts Paul looking magisterial, with Hillary Clinton and President Obama grimacing in the background.

"The research I needed to conduct was rigorous, as was the writing process," Frizell said.

"I need to think like a storyteller and notate like a reporter."

Heard from the Hall

The beautiful Tamron Hall, co-host of the "Today" show and MSNBC's "News Nation," graces the cover of the latest issue of Philadelphia Style magazine, which hit newsstands today.

"This is out of my world of comfort, but I had to admit, I felt kind of fierce!" she told Philadelphia Style.
