"Call the Midwife" meets the Old Testament in this engaging two-night miniseries based on Anita Diamant's bestselling novel. Rebecca Ferguson (below right, with Minnie Driver) stars as Dinah, daughter of Jacob (Iain Glen), while Driver and Morena Baccarin play two of Jacob's wives, who pass on to their shared daughter the secrets of helping women through childbirth.

* CNN HEROES: AN ALL-STAR TRIBUTE. 8 p.m. Sunday, CNN.

Philly's Questlove will be among the stars presenting CNN's top 10 "heroes" in a ceremony broadcast from the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Other celebs include Taye Diggs, Benedict Cumberbatch, Christina Hendricks and South Jersey's Kelly Ripa.

* IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. 8 p.m. Saturday, NBC10.

Just because the Frank Capra classic has inspired dozens of terrible TV movies and holiday-themed sitcom episodes doesn't mean you can't love the original, does it?

* THE NEWSROOM. 9 p.m. Sunday, HBO.

The next-to-last episode of the series finds ACN news anchor Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels) confined to a jail where even the guard speaks like an Aaron Sorkin character. Meanwhile, back at the office, Will's co-workers are coping with the kind of extreme culture change that makes journalists' stomachs hurt.
