THE PHILLIES are getting into the "The Goldbergs" game.

The Flyers have been a semiregular presence on the ABC TV show based on the life of series creator Adam F. Goldberg and his family growing up in 1980s Jenkintown.

But now I hear that both the Phillies and Major League Baseball have given permission to set a game at old Veterans Stadium.

Goldberg had previously submitted a script to the Phils and MLB, which both orgs had concerns about.

Goldberg tweeted his disappointment: "CRUSHED the @Phillies denied us usage for @TheGoldbergsABC. They need to take a page from my boys at @NHLFlyers!"

The Phillies' Michael Harris, director of marketing and special projects, reached out to Goldberg via Twitter, which turned into a half-hour phone conversation to make the necessary changes. The next day, Goldberg submitted a new script and the fictional Goldbergs will get to to go the Vet.

"Twitter was the mechanism for Adam to initially express his frustration, but ironically was also the conduit that connected us with each other," Harris said. "Like with many things, a good old-fashioned conversation can solve a lot. And that's all it took. We totally hit it off and it was a great discussion. I give a lot of credit to Adam because he understood and appreciated our concerns. He was able to tweak the script rather easily without changing the original premise of the scene."

Since "The Goldbergs" is a pastiche of '80s culture, there's no word yet on if it will be the early '80s version of the team that made it to the World Series twice, winning one, of course. Or, the team from the latter half of the decade.

"The Goldbergs" airs on ABC Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.

Mathis welcomes baby

Eagles offensive lineman Evan Mathis welcomed a baby girl, Aven, earlier this month. Aven joins big sister, Lee Ila, who is 2.

Glass' house

Philly-born and bred comedian (and Preston and Steve Show favorite) Todd Glass will be at Helium Comedy Club tonight and this weekend for a homestand of shows. Glass, who recently released a memoir called The Todd Glass Situation, has seen a major career bump after coming out of the closet in 2012. But does Glass ever get tired of talking about major issues in interviews, like his sexuality and dyslexia, when he just wants to be funny?

"The truth of the matter is, I don't mind talking about this stuff," he said. "I didn't talk about these things for so long. If people want to see if I'm funny, they can go look at YouTube clips. But you're right, sometimes you get paranoid [that you're talking about it too much], but it's cathartic for me."

Audience members can expect some Philly-specific material this time around, now that Glass is back on his home turf.

"I'll get with my family and we'll talk about some things," Glass said. "That will certainly generate some material."

* Speaking of Preston and Steve, don't forget their annual Camp Out for Hunger, in which the morning jocks will be staying in the parking lot of Xfinity Live! (1100 Pattison Ave.) starting Monday, collecting nonperishable foods for Philabundance. Celebs hanging out with the crew include Tom Green, Jeremy Maclin, Cody Parkey, Jon Dorenbos and Jon Runyan. Perennial South Jersey gal Kelly Ripa also will call in to lend her support before she goes live with "Live with Kelly and Michael."

Return to form

Tony Bruno returns to his old stomping grounds, this time on the FM dial, when he makes a guest appearance on 94.1 WIP at 7 a.m. today, reporting from Philadelphia International Airport.

Yazz's birthday bash

I hear that Overbrook High grad Bryshere Y. Gray will celebrate his 21st birthday at Ms. Tootsie's Lounge (1312 South St.) on Saturday, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m. I hear that some big and fancy names are expected to attend.

He has a lot to celebrate, including a starring role in West Philly-native Lee Daniels' new Fox show, "Empire," with Plymouth Meeting's own Terrence Howard.

Gray, also known as rapper Yazz the Greatest (who is championed by Will Smith bestie, Charlie Mack), also will hold a party in Chicago, where "Empire" is being filmed (alas, a movement to get the show switched to Philly locations, spurred by the Greater Philadelphia Film Office, did not succeed).

In the show, which premieres Jan. 7 at 9 p.m., Gray plays the favored son of Luscious Lyons (Howard), a hip-hop mogul in the vein of Diddy or Jay Z, who finds out he has a degenerative disease and looks to hand his company over to one of his progeny.
