U.N. asks George Clooney fiancee to weigh in on Gaza crisis

AS IF the Israel vs. Hamas battle didn't lead to enough Internet name-calling, the comments sections are about to add a celebrity angle.

The U.N.'s three-member commission on possible violations of the rules of war in Gaza will include George Clooney's fiancee, British-Lebanese lawyer Amal Alamuddin.

The president of the 47-nation U.N. Human Rights Council announced the appointments yesterday. Alamuddin is a London-based international-law specialist and former legal adviser to the prosecutor of the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Canada's William Schabas, an international-law professor at Middlesex University, will chair the commission. Also tapped was Doudou Diene, of Senegal, a lawyer who has filled U.N. posts on racism and human rights in Ivory Coast.

Gabon Ambassador Baudelaire Ndong Ella, who presides over the U.N.'s top human-rights body in Geneva, said that the commission would investigate all violations of international humanitarian and human-rights law according to the council's July 23 resolution and report back in March.

Guess no one's in a rush to get the answers.

Let's just hope the fighting is over long before then.

The Geneva-based advocacy group U.N. Watch called on Schabas to recuse himself from the commission because of prior statements critical of Israeli leaders. The group's executive director, Hillel Neuer, also questioned whether the U.N. is "trying to inject some Hollywood publicity into the process" by appointing Alamuddin.

Given how many celebrities have already weighed in on both sides of the conflict, Tattle thinks enough Hollywood publicity has already been injected.

* Jeff Goldblum is heading back to New York but not to act - he'll be singing.

The Cafe Carlyle said that the "Jurassic Park" star will perform Sept. 16 to 20 with his jazz band, the Mildred Snitzer Orchestra.

The actor has sung and played piano with the band for years, but the new dates mark their New York premiere. They're named for a friend of Goldblum's family and play improvised versions of jazz standards like "Summertime" or "The Sidewinder."

Or " 'The Fly' Me to the Moon."

The fall season at the Carlyle also will include sets by actress Rita Wilson (Tom Hanks' wife), Sept. 24 to Oct. 4; '80s teen star Molly Ringwald, Oct. 7 to 18; and David Johansen, whose alter ego is Buster Poindexter, Oct. 21 to 25. Woody Allen and his jazz band play every Monday from Sept. 15 to Dec. 15.

* Speaking of Woody, USA Today reports that current Allen fave Emma Stone is in talks to make her Broadway debut as Sally Bowles in the Roundabout Theatre Company production of "Cabaret."

Michelle Williams now stars with Alan Cumming as the Emcee. The show is playing a limited run through Jan. 4.

The New York Post's Page Six reports that Kendall Jenner was dining with Stephen Baldwin's daughter, Hailey, last week at lower Manhattan's Mercer Kitchen, when underage Kendall became perturbed that they wouldn't serve her alcohol.

So she left. Reportedly $60 and a tip short on her bill.

Her server was actress Blaine Morris (who'd appeared on MTV's "Skins"), and Blaine ran outside after Kendall.

"Your crappy reality nonsense is making it impossible for real actresses to get TV work," Blaine screamed.

Well, not really, but it would have been totally understandable. She just wanted to get paid.

"Kendall and Hailey started laughing," said a Page Six source.

"Kendall took a couple of $20 bills out of her wallet, threw them at the server and walked away, not even counting if it was enough or if it included a tip."

Morris then tweeted, "That horrible moment you chase a Kardashian down the street because she forgot to pay her bill to be thrown money in your face."

Kendall's rep didn't comment, but Hailey said the pair thought everything was paid for and that Kendall was polite.

* Kim Kardashian, meanwhile, talked to "Extra" about, what else, herself - and her book of selfies.

"Selfies are so fun," selfie-obsessed Kim said. "I have accumulated so many selfies over the years that no one's seen . . . there's even a section of all the selfies I sent Kanye over the years, really racy ones. He kept them, and they might make the book. We're also including my iconic bikini selfie that everyone freaked out about. It took probably 10 selfies to get that one that I posted, so I'm putting in all the ones that didn't make it."

Wow. To be so full of oneself after accomplishing so little.
