Sideshow: Smash go Kim and Kris

Kim Kardashian on Monday filed for divorce from the NBA's Kris Humphries, ending the most ideal pairing since Britney Spears' 55-hour marriage to Jason Alexander. Kim cited "irreconcilable differences."

The couple's lucrative union, blessed Aug. 20 at a $10 mil wedding, lasted a sad 72 days. Radio celeb-chatte r Ryan Seacrest confirmed the news in a tweet. "Yes [Kim] is filing for divorce this morning," he said. "I touched base with her, getting a statement in just a few minutes."

Kim is distraught. "This was not an easy decision," she tells E!, her Keeping Up With the Kardashians employer. "I had hoped this marriage was forever, but sometimes things don't work out as planned. We remain friends."

E! is distraught, too. "All of us at E! are surprised and saddened by this news," it says before hyping its show. "E! will continue to share the fascinating real lives and larger-than-life existence of this close-knit family."

In divorce papers filed Monday against Kris Humphries, Kim Kardashian asks the court to bar Kris from seeking spousal support. We can't imagine that Kris, who made $3.2 mil last season with the New Jersey Nets, would shake her down.

Yet money has been the running motif in this 72-day joke. Kim and Kris' ruthlessly promoted romance was a highly lucrative TV fairy tale about fame and money.

K&K earned a reported $17.9 mil from the event, $15 mil alone for selling it as a TV special for E! The two-part Kim's Fairytale Wedding drew an average of 10.5 mil viewers, setting a ratings record for E!

K&K also raked in more than $500,000 in freebies, including Kim's $60,000 Vera Wang wedding gown and $150,000 (?!) worth of free hair and makeup care.

It's a shame they won't be able to make more cash with the marriage. There's always the divorce. Not to mention the reconciliation - and wedding do-over!

Jessica Simpson has confirmed she and fiance Eric Johnson are expecting a baby, breaking a coy, weeks-long silence that had the nation on tenterhooks.

"It's true - I'm going to be a mummy!" Jess tweeted Monday afternoon to her 4,202,931 Twitter followers. In Touch Weekly says Jess had initially planned to wed Eric on the first anniversary of his proposal on Nov. 11, but the nuptials have been postponed indefinitely.

Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith's production company Overbrook Entertainment is partnering with Queen Latifah to develop a daytime TV talk show for 2013 hosted by the Queen herself, USA Today says. . . . Meredith Vieira, who left NBC's Today this summer, made a surprise appearance Monday dressed as Queen Elizabeth II with five corgi dogs. We laughed, we cried.

Speaking of weeping: The 18-year-old girl who kisses Justin Bieber's teenage Canadian lips in his "Mistletoe" music vid is a pro, not Bieb's lover. Ali Williams, a student at Belmont University in Nashville, won the part in an audition. "He was . . . really easy to get along with, really polite," she tells MTV News. "As far as the kissing, it was very professional. It's just a job."

Broomall native Danny Bonaduce, who on Aug. 26 made his last appearance as morning drive host on Philly's late lamented classic rock station WYSP (94.1 FM), has a new gig in Seattle.

The Partridge Family survivor will be morning host on Seattle Classic Rock station KZOK (102.5 FM) beginning Nov. 14.

Will Ferrell says he was awestruck to meet President Obama last week when he was in Washington to receive the Mark Twain Prize for Humor. Ferrell and his wife, Viveca Paulin, met Obama at the White House. "It was my first time. It's kind of the height of the most surreal experience you can have in a way," the Saturday Night Live alum tells USA Today.

"It's kind of crazy to be standing there and you're talking to the president and you're listening to him and you're trying to look around the room and take it all in."

There was a snafu when Ferrell left.

"We all leave and I hear [Obama] yelling my name: 'Will, Will, you forgot your award!' He was like, 'Hey, I'll take it,' " Ferrell explains. "I was so awestruck that I left the award on his desk. I didn't have my comedy chops up . . . but when he was calling my name, I wish I had said, 'Not now, I'm busy!' "

A small victory for Alycia Lane in her civil suit against Larry Mendte and former employer CBS. The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has rejected the network's request to move the trial to New York. CBS stated that Philly jurors would be biased in favor of Lane, who was a popular anchor on CBS's Philly station CBS3 from 2003 to 2010.

CBS also claimed Lane's contract included language that any cases against the network would be conducted in New York. Lane attorney Paul Rosen denied any such clause existed.

Lane filed suit against Mendte and CBS in 2008 after her fellow anchor confessed he had accessed hundreds of personal e-mails and photos on her personal computer. Mendte claims he hacked Lane's computer after they ended a "flirtatious, unprofessional and improper relationship."

Lane blames CBS for ruining her professional rep by firing her and for failing to look into her suspicions that someone was leaking her e-mails.
